Enhance orthotic outcomes, increase patient satisfaction, and introduce new sales potential to your practice.

The patented Cluffy Wedge® is a very effective method of treatment for biomechanical problems of the foot related to functional hallux limitus, first-ray insufficiency, and an unstable windlass mechanism.  These problems can be the primary source of mechanical dysfunction in many individuals.  If they are not the primary source of mechanical dysfunction, they are certainly a significant co-morbidity in many others with primary rearfoot pronation.  The windlass mechanism is a strong passive stabilizer of the foot structure and needs to work properly for correct foot function to occur.  If the windlass mechanism does not work correctly, the foot will be unstable at a time in the gait cycle when foot stability needs to be optimal in late midstance and active propulsion.

These mechanical problems may commonly manifest as lesser metatarsal overload, heel pain, and achillodynia.

A number of foot deformities may have their origin in functional disturbances of the foot, including hammertoes, neuromas, bunions, and hallux rigidus. It is hoped and, in fact, anticipated that further research will validate the effectiveness of this simple approach in augmenting functional orthotic control.

Cluffy Biomedical was started in 2002 by James Clough, DPM as a promotional and research arm for the Cluffy Wedge® and other podiatric and medical technology currently under development.

The Cluffy Wedge® is the first product of a line of biomechanical devices to improve foot function. Late midstance and active propulsion pronation remain difficult problems to treat, and the innovation of the Cluffy Wedge® provides a well-tolerated and inexpensive method of enhancing the control of the foot as provided by a shoe, insole, or custom Orthotic. It enhances the biomechanical control of these devices and consequently improves the overall comfort of the foot as the foot begins to function in a much more stable and closed packed position late in the stance phase of gait. This device has been extensively tested at the Foot and Ankle Clinic of Montana, in Great Falls, Montana, and Sports Biomechanics, Inc., East Lansing, Michigan, and has been well-tolerated in functional shoe gear.

Other products are currently in the pipeline of development and will be offered to the shoe and insole markets for licensing shortly. Please keep watching this website for details of these products as they become available.

Opportunities to research the full effects of the Cluffy Wedge® are encouraged. Please use the contact information on this website to discuss the support of such research by Cluffy Biomedical. Preliminary findings indicate a significant impact of the Cluffy Wedge® on gait, as can be seen by the white paper.

Distributorships for the Cluffy Wedge® are available. These distributorships are available to businesses primarily reselling and an affiliate program is available to retail-based businesses. Consumers inquiring about the purchase of the Cluffy Wedge® are directed to our retail affiliates. To become an affiliate, minimum purchase volumes are required. Please contact Cluffy Biomedical to discuss the details of a distributorship. This product offers the possibility of increased revenue growth to any business in the market of promoting foot comfort, whether that is insoles, shoes or orthotics. We can offer competitive wholesale prices because we are the direct manufacturer for our products. In addition to the revenue benefits, your product(s) will stand out from the rest as offering superior foot comfort and the latest in foot biomechanical technology. This product truly brings you “out of the box” in thinking about foot control and into a realm of technology that offers distinct advantages to the traditional approaches of foot control. This concept of controlling the foot is extremely easy to convey to the lay public.
